The HMSC is located in the Quoddy region on the shores of the Bay of Fundy. In close proximity to salt marshes, estuaries, immense whirlpools such as the Old Sow, beaches and the world's highest tides, the centre provided exceptional opportunities for studying transitional zones between terrestrial, aquatic and marine environments. Hundreds of islands and ledges are home to numerous species of marine birds. Seals porpoises and whales come inshore to feed on the rich concentration of sea life.
