Additional Information
Founded in 1845, University College Cork is one of the oldest universities in Ireland. It occupies a historic site near the city centre of Cork, where its beautiful grounds and 19th century buildings form an attractive setting for its many undergraduate and graduate programmes. There are specially designed courses for visiting students in the Early Start Semester, though courses are also provided during the normal 2-semester academic year which commences in early October. Undergraduate degrees at present last 4 years, though this is under review as part of the Bologna Process which has as one of its aims the harmonisation of degree course length throughout Europe.
The University of Cork provides excellent scientific facilities and equipment, with academic staff of international standing, in Ireland's second city, a bustling, lively centre which has attracted a large number of international film and music festivals. Cork's spectacular coastline and temperate climate make it an ideal location for visiting students to study its great variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat.
