The Agricultural University of Athens, one of the oldest universities in Greece, has a large campus of 14 building complexes (lecture theatres, labs, etc) as well as gardens, stables, greenhouses, vineyards, sports fields. It has more than 200 teaching and research staff, in 7 faculties, offering 6 undergraduate degrees for its 3000 students. The Applied Hydrobiology section of the Dept. of Animal Science houses very advanced aquaculture technology labs, with 5 recirculation systems, more than 280 fish tanks with photoperiod facilities, automatic videorecording of fish behaviour with sound recordings to reduce fish stress. Research is conducted endocrinology and fish stress, especially in relation to fish stress under domesticated conditions.

The Agricultural University of Ahens is the third oldest university in Greece, whose history goes back one hundred years. Animal Science specialisations (Physiology, Anatomy, Genetics and Breeding, Nutrition, Pathology) have aquaculture modules from the 7th semester of the five-year degree course. Course and laboratory work include fish and shellfish physiology and anatomy, genetics, reproduction, and biotechnology, with a 4 - month research component on closed systems. Obligatory research project and 4-month practical training or work placement allow a wide range of student exchange possibilities. Assessment by means of ECTS. Undergraduate courses in Greek, but research projects can be undertaken in English.
