THE PRESENT TENSE
SIMPLE PRESENT
In het Engels is het zeer eenvoudig om zelfstandige naamwoorden correct te gebruiken. Een zn. heeft meestal maar één vorm en het meervoud wordt gevormd door er "s" aan toe te voegen.
Maar de werkwoorden zijn moeilijker.
In het Engels, in tegensteling tot de meeste andere talen, heeft de tegenwoordige tijd drie verschillende vormen en wordt gebruikt om verschillende nuances uit te drukken.
Het is zeer belangrijk om de variaties in het gebruik van de tegenwoordige tijd te kennen.
1. SIMPLE PRESENT
I think, you think, he,she, it thinks, we think, you think, they think.
2. CONTINUOUS PRESENT
I am thinking, you are thinking, he/she is thinking, we are thinking, you are thinking, they are thinking
3a. INTERROGATIVE
(vragen stellen)
Do I think?
Do you think?
Does she think?
3.b. NEGATIVE FORM
I don't think.
You don't think.
She doesn't think.
3.c. EMPHATIC FORM
I do think that I am right.
You do think that I am right, don't you?
She really does think that the English class is at three o'clock.
