Numerabili e non numerabili

Alcuni sostantivi sono numerabili, come child (bambino),
mouse (topo), bucket (secchio), tank (serbatoio).
Essi hanno una forma plurale: children, mice, buckets, tanks.

a full bucket

There is a lot of food in the bucket.
(C'è una grande quantità di cibo nel secchio)
The bucket is full of food.
(Il secchio è pieno di cibo)

There is a lot of water in the tank.
(C'è una grande quantità di acqua nel serbatoio)
The tank is full of water.
(Il serbatoio è pieno di acqua)

a little filled bucket

There is a little food in the bucket.
(C'è poco cibo nel secchio)
The bucket is three-quarters empty.
(Il secchio è vuoto per tre quarti)

There is a little water in the tank.
The tank is three-quarters empty.

Altri sostantivi sono non numerabili.
Essi non hanno una forma plurale: water (acqua),
air (aria), salt (sale)

a halffull bucket

There is some food in the bucket.

There is some water in the tank.
(C'è un po' d'acqua nel serbatoio)

an empty bucket

There is no food in the bucket.
