THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS

In Greek, the present tense is used to describe actions taking place right now, as well as actions that are repeated. I am feeding the fish now and I feed the fish every day.

The same form of the verb is used for two different forms in English. English grammar points explained in Greek. The Greek translations are given throughout to show the differences in English grammar.

Ερωτήσεις και αρνητικές απαντήσειςAsking questions and making negative statements
Στα αγγλικά, επιδης ρωτο ύ με και δινουμε και αρνητικές απαντησεις στον ενεσι ό τα. Oταν κάνουμε ερωτήσεις στον ενεστιοτα, αλλαζουμε την σειρά την λέχε?We also ask questions and make negative statements, in the present continuous. When we ask questions in the present continuous, we change the word order.
Tι κάνεισ;What are you doing?

Δεν ετοιμάζο το δέιγμα ακομη γιατι ψάχνω στο εργαστειριο για έναν δοκιμαστικο σωλήνα.I am not preparing the sample yet because I am looking in the lab for a test tube.
Tι κάνει το ψαρι;What is the fish doing?
Tο ψαρι κολυμπαει στο νερό.The fish is swimming in the water.
Που πάει ο τεχνικοσ;Where is the technician going?
Δεν πάει στο εργαστήριο. Πάει να κάνει ένα τηλεφων?He is not going to the laboratory.   He is going to make a telephone call.

Παιρνεις ενα δέιγμα αιματος κάθε μέρα;Do you take a blood sample every day?
Aπάντηση: Oχι, δεν παιρνω ενα δέιγμα άιματος κάθε μέρα. Παιρνω την θερμοκρασια του νερού κάθε μέρα.Answer: No, I don’t take a blood sample every day. I take the water temperature every day.
