COMPARISON OF ADJECTIVES

You have previously learned how to form the comparative and the superlative forms of adjectives, using more and most.

Some/many     more     most

This grammatical construction shows how to describe and compare objects, moving on an upwards scale (5, 7, 10 - some, more, most).

To move down the scale ( 10, 7, 5) two different constructions are needed:

few
fewer
fewest
 
little/ some
less
least
 

Example A

  1. There are a few fish in tank No 1. (10)
  2. There are fewer fish in Tank No. 2 (7)
  3. There are fewest fish in Tank No. 3 (5)

Few, fewer, fewest are used with countable nouns.
