PRODUCERS AND CONSUMERS
FOOD CHAINS
Food chains show how one living thing is the food for another.
Energy passes along a food chain from producers to consumers as one member of the chain eats the next.

- Seaweed is a producer.
It produces food
by photosynthesis. - Periwinkles are called
first consumers
because they eat weed. - Herring gulls are called
second consumers,
because they eat periwinkles.
- Seaweed → periwinkle → herring gull
- This is an example of a food chain.
