Countable and Uncountable
Some nouns are countable, like child, mouse, bucket, tank.
They have plural forms: children, mice, buckets, tanks.

There is a lot of food in the bucket.
The bucket is full of food.
There is a lot of water in the tank.
The tank is full of water.

There is a little food in the bucket.
The bucket is three-quarters empty.
There is a little water in the tank.
The tank is three-quarters empty.
Other nouns are uncountable.
They have no plural form: water, air, salt.

There is some food in the bucket.
The bucket is half-full of food.
There is some water in the tank.
The tank is half-full of water.

There is no food in the bucket.
The bucket is empty.
There is no water in the tank.
The tank is empty.
